The Flaming Lips Merilis Ulang Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots

Jurnalpanasea – Kabar gembira bagi penggemar The Flaming Lips, dalam rangka memperingati ulang tahunnya yang ke 20 tahun, salah satu album terbaik mereka, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots telah dirilis ulang pada 25 November kemarin, dalam format box set berisikan 6 CD.

Selain itu, ada lagi paket 5 LP yang rencananya akan dirilis pada 14 April tahun depan (2023). Semuanya akan dikeluarkan oleh Warner.

Untuk format CD, album ini akan memuat lebih dari 50 lagu yang belum dirilis. Dan format vinil memuat lebih dari 30 track, ditambah beberapa nomor yang belum pernah dirilis sebelumnya. Seperti B-sides, demo, remix, sesi radio, dua album live dan beberapa nomor langka seperti, versi kover dari “Lucifer Sam” dan “Breathe” (Pink Floyd), “Knives Out” (Radiohead) dan “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” (Kylie Minogue).

Setiap lagu dalam CD yang bukan bagian dari koleksi vinyl awal, akan dirilis pada format vinyl secara terpisah tahun depan, menurut press rilis mereka. Pernak-pernik terpisah itu termasuk dua album live (direkam di Boston dan London) dan demo 25 menit “Psychedelic Hypnotist Daydream”. Selain itu, EP Ego Tripping at the Gates of Hell dan Fight Test akan dirilis dalam bentuk vinyl untuk pertama kalinya pada musim semi mendatang.

Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots sendiri merupakan album ke-10 dari Flaming Lips yang dirilis pada 2002 lalu. Album ini dianggap salah satu rilisan penting dalam rentang 20 tahun terakhir.

Dengan merangkum beberapa elemen seperti neo-psychedelia, space rock, dream pop, bersama  konsep – konsep mereka yang dianggap bertentangan, tetapi terdengar artistik contohnya elektronika mix akustik.

Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots berhasil secara popularitas dan komersial, album ini menduduki beberapa chart di banyak negara di antaranya Jerman, Norwegia, Perancis, Amerika, Inggris, dan telah terjual sebanyak 570.000 kopi di Amerika Serikat saja (menurut Nielsen SoundScan sekarang MRC Data, penyedia data penjualan musik)

Selain itu Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots mendapat banyak perhatian dari berbagai media, dan masuk dalam daftar The Best Albums of the Decade dari beberapa media musik seperti Rolling Stone, Uncut dan Billboard.
